About
My name is Rob Hunt. i’m just an ordinary guy who loves spending time with Jesus.
i grew up on a farm in Michigan, where i first heard about Jesus in Sunday school. i knew what they said about Him was true, but i didn’t like the part about giving up control. So I tried to be good but wasn’t.
i didn’t mind the farm but i hated farm work, so after i finished high school i headed off to college at the University of Michigan. Although it was only an hour and a half away, Ann Arbor was a radical shift in perspective. i stayed there long enough to get a couple of degrees and then headed west.
In Colorado i found a mountain lifestyle more to my liking, and developed my interest in all things outdoors. i also pursued a career in city management, serving first as an assistant in Colorado and then as a full-on manager in Michigan and Nevada.
In Colorado i met my wife Karen, who is much more of a mountaineer than me. We fell in love, got married and had two wonderful sons, raising them here at Lake Tahoe, where we’ve now lived for forty years.
After twenty years in government i detoured into business, where i ran a student travel company for eight years. When our company got bought out by Wall Street, i began seeking God. Although i’d been attending church for years, i’d really only warmed the bench. But all that changed on Easter Sunday 2002, when Jesus finally grabbed hold of me and led me to grab hold of Him!
When i finally submitted to God i immediately began having deep encounters with Him. A year later i accepted a job leading a Christian outreach to teens. i knew nothing about youth or about ministry, so i had to depend a lot upon God. It was really awkward, me an old white guy hanging mostly with young Latinos, but Jesus was in it, so i learned a lot about Him, and a few of the kids learned a thing or two as well.
The more i listened to God the more amazed i became that He was also listening to me! Soon i became filled with His Spirit and baptized in His love as a Father and His devotion as a Son. As i applied myself to loving others, i began walking in spiritual power. i also found quite a few friends who shared my passion for Jesus, although most of them were a fraction of my age. By God’s grace we’ve managed to stick together even after my ministry collapsed.
For the past dozen years i’ve made listening to God my full time vocation. i’ve written down most of what i’ve heard in journals and an e-Bible, and now it’s morphing into this blog and maybe a daily devotional, both called Twenty Three Ways. i hope you find my journey inspiring, even as your journeys inspire me!
